In Tallinn, Zelenskyy discussed air defence and defence cooperation with the Finnish Prime Minister
During his visit to Tallinn, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo ahead of the Ukraine–Nordic and Baltic Countries Summit.
During the talks, the parties discussed European countries’ work on developing anti-ballistic defence, as well as preparations for an agreement under the Drone Deal framework. According to Zelenskyy, teams are already working on relevant projects, with the main objective being to strengthen security in Europe.
The interlocutors paid particular attention to strengthening Ukraine’s air defence, security challenges in the region, and diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace. The President also briefed the Finnish Prime Minister on Ukraine’s contacts with European partners and the United States.
Zelenskyy thanked the Government and people of Finland for their support of Ukraine, in particular for the military aid packages and contributions to the PURL programme. He noted that Finland’s readiness to continue its support is important for Ukraine.
On the same day, the President of Ukraine is taking part in the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) Leaders’ Summit in Tallinn. The meeting is being chaired by Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal, and participants include the heads of government of the eight NB8 countries.
According to Mihal, support for Ukraine remains one of the key priorities of the Estonian presidency of the Nordic-Baltic Eight. He emphasised that since the start of Russia’s full-scale aggression, the NB8 countries have remained among Ukraine’s most active allies, with the total amount of aid provided exceeding €42 billion.
Summit participants plan to discuss strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities, increasing pressure on Russia, and security issues in Europe. Other topics on the agenda include competitiveness, the development of artificial intelligence, and regional security.
It is expected that, following the summit, a joint statement by the prime ministers of the Nordic-Baltic Eight countries and a declaration on deepening cooperation between Ukraine and the NB8 countries in the field of security and defence will be adopted.
The programme for Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Estonia also includes separate talks with Prime Minister Kristen Mihal and Estonian President Alar Karis.
