The Cabinet of Ministers has allocated 2.3 billion hryvnias to support schools, colleges and universities ahead of the 2026/2027 heating season. The funds will be used for backup power supplies, energy independence, utilities, shelter and the restoration of damaged buildings.

This was announced by Ukraine’s Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

The Cabinet of Ministers has allocated 2.3 billion hryvnias to prepare educational institutions for the 2026/2027 heating season.

According to Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, the funding will go to schools, colleges and universities.

The funds will be used to purchase backup power systems, modernise infrastructure, repair damaged facilities and prepare institutions for winter operations.

“All schools, colleges and universities must be properly prepared for the 2026/2027 heating season to ensure an uninterrupted learning process,” Svyrydenko noted.

What schools will receive

Almost 500 million hryvnias has been earmarked for schools.

These funds are to be spent on backup power systems, batteries, solar power stations and other equipment.

The aim is to make schools’ operations more stable in the event of potential power cuts.

How much will be allocated to colleges

Vocational pre-higher education institutions will receive 417 million UAH.

Of this amount, 217 million hryvnias will be used to pay for utilities.

A further 200 million hryvnias is earmarked to prepare over 80 of the largest colleges for the heating season and to enhance their energy independence.

What will the funds for universities be used for

The government has allocated 600 million hryvnias to universities.

This money is to be spent on combined heat and power plants, solar power stations and energy storage systems.

A further 275 million hryvnias has been earmarked for utility bills.

An additional 500 million hryvnias will be directed towards the restoration of damaged universities, the fitting out of shelters and the purchase of necessary equipment.

What is important

This is about preparing the education system for the new heating season amid the war and the risk of power cuts.

The government states that schools, colleges and universities must operate continuously even under difficult conditions.

Particular emphasis is placed on energy independence: backup power supplies, batteries, solar power stations, combined heat and power plants, and energy storage systems.
