Laura Lumer, an American blogger and supporter of US President Donald Trump, travelled to Ukraine to verify for herself the claims she had previously made about the country and Volodymyr Zelenskyy. She admitted that she had been misled by Russian propaganda.

Lumer announced this on the social media platform X.

Why did Laura Lumer come to Ukraine?

The blogger posted a video of her arrival in Ukraine by train. She emphasised that she had deliberately chosen to travel to Ukraine rather than Russia, as she wanted to verify the information about the war for herself.

Lumer stated that she would be seeking confirmation of the claims she had previously heard about Ukraine. If she fails to find such evidence, she promised to inform her audience.

According to the blogger, the aim of the trip is to see the situation for herself, talk to Ukrainians and verify the Russian reports that had influenced her previous assessments.

What Lumer said about her previous posts

The American blogger confirmed that she had previously published negative claims about Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. She does not intend to delete her old posts, as she wishes to leave them as evidence of her own mistake.

Lumer explained that she had been exposed to an information environment in which Russian media and associated pages systematically fostered a negative perception of Ukraine.

According to her, she believed these reports for years, but later realised that they were part of a Russian disinformation campaign. The blogger now considers it her duty to publicly correct her previous statements.

What the blogger saw in Bucha

On the first day of her trip, Lumer visited Bucha in the Kyiv region. She said that there she was shown photographs of priests killed by Russian soldiers, as well as a mass grave of victims of the occupation.

The blogger stated that what she saw had forced her to reassess the claims spread by Russia regarding the causes of the war and the actions of the Russian army.

Lumer also spoke with representatives of the services responsible for the repatriation of Ukrainian prisoners of war. She said she was shown photographs of prisoners on whose bodies Russian soldiers had allegedly carved Nazi symbols.

The blogger did not disclose the names of the organisations or any details about specific prisoners. Her post contains no independent confirmation of the circumstances depicted in the photographs shown to her.

How Lumer’s stance has changed

Following her visit to Bucha, the blogger cast doubt on Russian accusations that Ukraine is Nazi. She stated that she had been receiving false information for years and is now re-evaluating her attitude towards the war.

Lumer also retracted her previous accusations against Ukraine and Zelenskyy of supporting Islamist movements. She placed the blame for collaborating with such forces on Russia and Vladimir Putin.

The blogger acknowledged that the Russian side is effectively waging an information war and influencing Western audiences via social media.

What is known about Lumer’s links to Trump

Laura Lummer is an active supporter of Donald Trump and an influential figure in the MAGA movement, though she does not hold an official position in the US presidential administration.

In 2024, she accompanied Trump during several campaign events and flew on his private jet. At the same time, Trump stated that Lumer did not work for his campaign team and distanced himself from some of her public statements.

In April 2025, Lumer met with Trump at the White House and passed on information to him about National Security Council staff members whom she considered disloyal. Following the meeting, several officials were dismissed or reassigned to other posts, although no direct link between the blogger’s recommendations and all the personnel decisions was officially confirmed.

Reuters described Lumer as an influential activist in the MAGA movement who has access to the president but is not a White House staff member or an official adviser to Trump.

The NACP will be able to re-inspect government bodies: what has changed

The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption will be able to monitor not only how anti-corruption work is organised within institutions, but also compliance with previously issued directives and recommendations. If an institution fails to report the results in response to a request from the Agency, this may constitute grounds for an unscheduled inspection.
