Umerov and Gnativ travelled to the United States for talks on the peace plan
National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andriy Gnatov, flew to the USA to continue negotiations with the American delegation regarding the revised peace plan. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this during a conversation with journalists, commenting on the progress of consultations between Kyiv and Washington.
According to the head of state, the Ukrainian and American delegations held a series of meetings in Florida, where they agreed on a common vision of a number of decisions. After these consultations, U.S. representatives traveled to Russia to discuss the document with the Kremlin side. "I cannot yet say anything about the format of the talks in Moscow," Zelenskyy noted.
The president confirmed that the parties agreed on the next negotiations in a broader format involving several international partners in Brussels. After contacts between the USA and Russia, the delegations will meet again in the United States — that is where Umerov and Gnatov have already flown.
The American peace plan consisting of 28 points, presented in November, raised concerns in Kyiv due to a number of formulations that effectively played into Moscow's hands. After two rounds of consultations — in Geneva and Florida — the document was refined, and Washington provided the Kremlin with several additional materials.
According to media reports, Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Vickoff, and his advisor, Jared Kushner, called negotiations with Putin "productive." A new round of talks between Vickoff, Kushner, and Umerov regarding the possible parameters of a future agreement is expected today.
