A fine for errors on bills: the Verkhovna Rada proposes penalties for housing and communal services providers
A proposal has been put forward in the Verkhovna Rada to penalise housing and communal services providers for errors
In Ukraine, there are plans to make utility providers pay fines for errors in their bills.

This is set out in Bill No. 15435.

Proposed penalties for incorrect bills

As set out in the draft bill, suppliers and managers of blocks of flats are to be penalised for inaccurate billing, incorrect calculation of service costs and breaches of the law when setting and applying tariffs.

If a consumer is sent a bill with an incorrectly calculated amount for any period, the supplier will be obliged to fully compensate the person for all losses and damages incurred.

How much will the fine be?

In addition to compensating for losses, unscrupulous suppliers will also have to pay the consumer a financial penalty.

The amount of the fine will be equal to the difference between the incorrectly charged amount and the actual cost of the services.

However, there is a cap: the maximum amount cannot exceed ten times the actual cost of the services for the relevant period.

As a reminder, it was previously reported that Ukraine will begin raising gas and electricity tariffs for households as early as 2027.
