Zelenskyy has assigned new roles to Umerov and Klymenko within the National Security and Defence Council
This was reported on Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s official Telegram channel.
Umerov is to focus on communication with partners, negotiations, the development of security cooperation and collaboration between the intelligence communities of Ukraine and other states.
His responsibilities will also include implementing the Drone Deals programme and Ukraine’s ‘Freya’ anti-ballistic programme.
Klymenko has been assigned responsibility for domestic security. He is to strengthen coordination between defence and security agencies, work on the state’s resilience, and counter Russian cyber threats and the activities of criminal networks.
Zelenskyy linked this appointment to Klymenko’s experience within the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The President offered him the post of NSDC Secretary on 17 July, and later explained that he expects the new Secretary to ensure systematic coordination of the state’s preparations for winter.
Formal personnel decisions had not yet been announced at the time of publication. Zelenskyy instructed that decrees be prepared for signing next week, following his scheduled meetings in the United States.
