A Moscow oil refinery has suspended operations following a drone attack
According to sources speaking to Reuters, the strike on the plant took place on Sunday. Although the damage to the plant was minor, it was decided to temporarily suspend operations for safety reasons. It may take several days to resume production.
Local authorities had previously reported that a drone had crashed near the plant.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated on 18 May that, according to preliminary data, 12 people were injured in the strike, most of whom were construction workers near the factory’s entrance.
He also stated that the plant’s main processing equipment had not been damaged.
The Moscow oil refinery is located in the south-east of Moscow and supplies fuel to the Russian capital.
Gazprom Neft, which owns the plant, did not respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
According to the agency’s sources, the plant processed 11.6 million tonnes of crude oil in 2024. The plant also produced 2.9 million tonnes of petrol, 3.2 million tonnes of diesel fuel and 1.3 million tonnes of bitumen.
