A power cut occurred at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant following a drone attack on Nikopol
This was reported by Energoatom.
The company states that this is the 17th power cut since Russian troops seized the plant and the fifth since the start of 2026.
“At 23:44, due to the disconnection of the ‘Ferosplavna-1’ power line, the plant completely lost its external power supply. The operation of critical systems was maintained by backup diesel generators,” the energy officials reported.
According to the IAEA, the power cut was caused by a drone strike on the ‘Nikopolskaya’ substation on the opposite bank of the Dnieper from the ZNPP. This led to the temporary disconnection of the sole power line remaining at the plant’s disposal.
“Another blackout at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant once again highlights the critical risks posed by the illegal occupation of the facility by Russian troops. Every loss of external power supply poses a direct threat to nuclear and radiation safety,” Energoatom emphasised.
