An elite drone unit. The media have discovered which Russian military personnel travelled to China for training
This is reported by *Welt*, whose journalists claim to have reviewed classified European intelligence documents.
The participants in the exercises were Russian men of various ranks and ages, born between the 1970s and 2001.
The main focus during the exercises was on the use of unmanned systems, electronic countermeasures against drones, and modern combat simulations. The Russians trained both on virtual simulators, where combat situations are practised on screens much like computer games, and in practice — at drone training grounds set up in warehouse facilities.
In return, China has shown considerable interest in Western military equipment being used in the fighting in Ukraine. According to European intelligence services, there is an intensive exchange of information between Moscow and Beijing regarding Western weapon systems.
China is particularly interested in systems such as the American HIMARS multiple launch rocket system, Patriot air defence systems, German Marder infantry fighting vehicles and American Abrams main battle tanks.
It is worth recalling that on 19 May, Reuters, citing data from three European intelligence agencies, reported that by the end of 2025, the Chinese armed forces had secretly trained around 200 Russian servicemen on their territory, and some of them had returned to the front in Ukraine.
According to the agency, the training of the soldiers was organised at Chinese military facilities in Beijing and Nanjing. Furthermore, the agreement provides for a reciprocal process — hundreds of Chinese soldiers are to undergo training on Russian territory.
Beijing has officially denied the Reuters report, calling it an “attempt to shift the blame”.
