Britain plans to transfer £8 billion in frozen Russian assets to Ukraine
The United Kingdom government is considering the transfer of £8 billion of frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine, reports The Public citing the British publication The Times.
According to the source, this step is being discussed with partners from the USA, Canada, and EU countries, and may become part of a broader financing package that could raise up to $130 billion to support and rebuild Ukraine.
The use of such funds, as envisioned, could cover a significant part of the country's financial needs in the coming years — both for defense and reconstruction purposes.
The UK government has already announced its readiness to act in coordination with the EU regarding the frozen Russian assets, calling it an effective way to support Kyiv and pressure Moscow.
If a decision is made, the transfer of assets will become one of the most tangible gestures of support for Ukraine from the UK since the start of the full-scale war.
