Budanov personally took part in sabotage operations in Russia: details of the GUR’s special operations
The commander of the GUR’s “Timur Special Unit” spoke about this in an interview with Natalia Moseychuk for the “Moseychuk+” project.
“It was Graivoron at first. Kirill Oleksiyovych was walking with the unit through the woods and fields,” the soldier recounts.
The commander also shared one episode from that operation: whilst on the move, the group stopped near a shop and a bus stop, where Budanov suggested they take a break and emphasised the symbolic significance of being in that area.

“He said: ‘Come on, let’s sit here, because this is also our territory,’” he recalls.
Also, according to the soldier, Budanov left his signature and the date there as a mark of his presence.
Budanov’s special operations: what is known
With the start of Russian aggression in 2014, Kirill Budanov, as a soldier in a special unit of Ukrainian intelligence, took part in combat operations in the east of the country, as well as in special operations by the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR). He was wounded several times. Most of the operations in which he participated remain classified.
However, it is known that in 2016, during a special operation in Crimea, he commanded a raid to destroy helicopters at a base in Dzhankoy. On their way out, Budanov’s group engaged in combat with Russian special forces, eliminating several individuals, including a high-ranking officer.
We should also recall that in 2025, Kirill Budanov, as head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, personally inspected positions on Zmiinyi Island and gas platforms in the Black Sea.
