The State Bureau of Investigation has uncovered a scheme involving illegal combat payments in the Dnipropetrovsk region
Officers from the State Bureau of Investigations have notified a former commander of a unit of the Ukrainian National Guard in the Dnipropetrovsk region and his former chief of staff that they are under suspicion.
According to the investigation, the unit’s leadership organised a scheme to illegally pay combat allowances to personnel. Such payments were made to 164 military personnel, allegedly for carrying out tasks related to the defence of platoon strongpoints.
The investigation established that the military personnel in question were in fact in staff positions and did not carry out combat duties.
As a result, almost 12 million hryvnias were wrongfully paid out from the state budget.
As part of the pre-trial investigation, the unlawfully paid funds have been recovered.
The former commander and chief of staff have been notified of suspicion of negligent attitude towards military service, which caused serious consequences and was committed under martial law in accordance with Part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The penalty under this article provides for imprisonment of up to 8 years.
The case is being prosecuted by the Kryvyi Rih Specialised Prosecutor’s Office for Defence in the Eastern Region.
