Drones attacked oil facilities in Volgograd and Yaroslavl, as well as the port in Temryuk
On the night of 29 May, Russia reported a large-scale drone attack. Drones were spotted over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Vladimir, Voronezh, Volgograd, Kursk, Oryol, Rostov, Saratov, Tver and Yaroslavl regions, as well as over the Krasnodar Krai.
In the Volgograd region, facilities in the fuel and energy sector and a synthetic fibre plant in the city of Volzhsky were targeted. Fires were also reported at industrial sites in Volgograd.
According to information from monitoring Telegram channels, the largest oil refinery in the Volgograd region, ‘Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka’, was among the facilities attacked. A fire broke out at the plant. The plant has a capacity of over 15 million tonnes of oil per year. It produces petrol, diesel, aviation fuel, fuel oil, bitumen and other petroleum products.
In the Yaroslavl region, industrial fuel storage facilities were hit. A fire broke out at the site.
Due to the attack, the authorities temporarily restricted traffic leaving Yaroslavl in the direction of Moscow. It was also reported that Yaroslavl Airport had been temporarily closed.
The affected area is home to a large industrial zone housing oil refineries and fuel enterprises, including ‘Slavneft-Yaroslavnefteorgsintez’ and the Yaroslavl oil depot ‘Spetsorg Plus’.
In addition, a fire broke out at the seaport in Temryuk, Krasnodar Krai. The region’s emergency response headquarters stated that the fire was caused by falling debris from a drone.
The port complex is located in the Temryuk Bay of the Sea of Azov and is used for the transhipment of various types of cargo, including liquefied hydrocarbon gas and petroleum products.
