The Russians destroyed a UNICEF warehouse near Kyiv containing humanitarian aid worth almost $4 million

According to UNICEF, there were over 106,000 items of humanitarian aid at the warehouse. The fire destroyed generators, drinking water supplies, hygiene kits, water storage tanks and other equipment that was intended primarily to support children and families in frontline areas, as well as to prepare for the upcoming heating season.
The organisation emphasised that the attack was part of a massive Russian assault on Kyiv and the surrounding region, which lasted several hours.
UNICEF noted that in the past week alone, two children were killed and at least 50 others were injured as a result of Russian shelling. Furthermore, June 2026 was the deadliest month for Ukrainian children since the start of the full-scale war: seven children were killed and 116 were injured.
“Attacks on humanitarian warehouses and humanitarian workers are hindering the delivery of vital aid to children and families affected by the war,” UNICEF stated, calling for an end to strikes on civilian humanitarian infrastructure.
Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada’s Commissioner for Human Rights, described the strike as a gross violation of international humanitarian law. According to him, Russia is attacking not only civilian infrastructure but also the very ability to save the lives of people in need of assistance.
