Drones attacked one of Russia's oldest power plants — fire is ongoing
On the night of November 23, residents of the Moscow region reported a series of explosions and a fire at the Shatura Thermal Power Plant. Videos posted on social media show flames on the territory of the TPP in the Russian city of Shatura. According to ThePublic.info, citing Russian Telegram channels, the incident is preliminarily linked to a drone attack.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin claimed that several drones were allegedly shot down over the Moscow region, but did not specify whether this was related to the fire at the power plant. Local residents assert that the fire could have started at the power distribution unit — as it is through this that the station supplies electricity to the Russian unified energy system.
During the attack, the Zhukovsky Airport was also temporarily shut down. Despite this, Russian authorities have not issued any official comments as of Sunday morning.
At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced a "massive attack" — according to them, 75 drones were shot down over various regions of the country, two of which were over the Moscow region.
The Lenin Shatura TPP is one of the oldest power plants in Russia. It was built back in 1925, and its total capacity is about 1500 MW.
