Two Russian missiles hit Kharkiv, 31 people injured
On the afternoon of 2 January, Russian troops launched a missile attack on the centre of Kharkiv. According to preliminary reports, two ballistic missiles were fired at residential areas. The attack left at least 31 people with injuries of varying severity.
According to the city authorities, one of the residential buildings in Kyivskyi district was completely destroyed. There is significant damage to neighbouring high-rise buildings, a shopping centre and a medical facility, with more than 100 windows smashed in the hospital. There was also damage to heating networks and electricity supply, which temporarily halted public transport on the city's main streets.
Among the victims are children, including a six-month-old baby with an acute stress reaction. According to doctors, five of the wounded are in moderate condition, one woman is in serious condition. The injured have shrapnel wounds, fractures and explosive injuries.
Law enforcement officials say the attack was probably carried out by Iskander missiles. A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the attack under the article on war crimes. Rescue operations are ongoing, and it is possible that people may be trapped under the rubble.
SES units are working at the scene: rescuers, climbers, dog handlers, pyrotechnics and psychologists, as well as the city's utilities.
