Former MP Murayev has been charged with a new offence relating to the justification of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine
This has been reported by the SBU.
After the start of the full-scale war, whilst in hiding abroad, Murayev gave an interview in which he described Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine as an ‘internal civil conflict’.
He also spread disinformation about the internal situation in Ukraine, called on citizens to lay down their arms before the Russians, and justified the occupation of Ukrainian territories.
Furthermore, prior to the ban on the TV channel ‘Nash’, which was under Murayev’s control, he made extensive use of the media outlet to spread disinformation about the socio-political situation in Ukraine in Russia’s favour.
On the basis of the evidence gathered, the SBU charged the former MP under Parts 1 and 3 of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — justifying, recognising as lawful, or denying the Russian Federation’s armed aggression against Ukraine, and glorifying its participants. He faces up to 15 years’ imprisonment.
Yevhen Muraiev is the leader of the banned pro-Russian party ‘Nashi’ and the owner of the ‘NASH’ TV channel, which has been subject to sanctions by the National Security and Defence Council since February 2022. He fled Ukraine at the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. In 2023, he was charged with high treason.
