The National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) have exposed a former prosecutor at the Slobozhanskyi District Prosecutor’s Office in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast for soliciting an illegal benefit of $80,000. According to the investigation, he allegedly demanded the money in exchange for a ‘lenient’ charge against a notary and a plea bargain resulting in a minimum sentence.

This was reported by NABU and the SAPO.

NABU and SAPO have exposed a former prosecutor at the Slobozhanskyi District Prosecutor’s Office in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast for soliciting an unlawful benefit.

According to the investigation, the sum involved was $80,000.

As established by detectives, between January and April 2026, whilst still in office as a prosecutor, the suspect repeatedly approached a lawyer with requests to pass on a bribe to him.

In return for this money, he allegedly promised to take or refrain from taking certain actions in the interests of the lawyer’s client – a notary.

This relates to criminal proceedings concerning the registration of land ownership rights on the basis of allegedly forged documents.

According to the investigation, the prosecutor promised to charge the notary with a less serious offence, to ‘overlook’ all instances of possible unlawful actions, and to conclude a plea bargain with her involving a minimum sentence.

In the event of refusal, he allegedly threatened to charge her with 15 counts of criminal offences and an additional charge.

According to the investigation, this could have resulted in the woman facing actual imprisonment and a ban on practising as a notary.

Initially, the amount of the bribe was $50,000.

Subsequently, according to the investigation, the prosecutor increased the sum to $80,000.

The money was to be transferred in instalments via a pre-arranged currency exchange point.

The former prosecutor’s actions were classified under Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until their guilt has been proven in accordance with the law and established by a court conviction.

As reported by ThePublic, the construction of the ‘Dynasty’ housing cooperative in Kozin, Kyiv Oblast, may have been consecrated by Viktor Drebotiy, Archpriest of the Church of All Saints of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Kyiv. His wife may have received a flat from former Deputy Prime Minister Chernyshov.
