FSB Agent Yan Zanevsky was notified of the fourth suspicion of a war crime
The Main Directorate of the National Police in Kherson Region has notified a citizen of the Russian Federation, Yan Zanevskiy, of suspicion of violating the laws and customs of war. This is stated in the suspicion text, informs ThePublic.info citing Sudovyi Reporter.
Zanevskiy is an employee of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation. Since July 2022, he has been engaged in filtration measures against the local population in the temporarily occupied territories of Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions. Since October 2022, he was a curator from the FSB RF for Vasylivskyi district of Zaporizhzhia region, where he was assigned the call sign "Ladya".
At the end of June 2022, Zanevskiy detained and tortured a civilian in the captured building of the Bilozerka District Court of Kherson region. On June 28, 2022, around 6 a.m., at least eleven Russian soldiers detained a civilian man at his place of residence. The hostage was held without any legal grounds until July 1 in a cell on the first floor of the Bilozerka District Court building.
Zanevskiy and unidentified Russian military personnel interrogated the victim about possible weapons storage locations. An unidentified soldier, in the presence of Zanevskiy, used violence against the detainee: hitting with the palm and stepping on his toe. Another time, a soldier, in front of Zanevskiy, punched the victim in the stomach. On June 30, 2022, Zanevskiy ordered the use of violence against the hostage in the evening — to conduct a "good conversation." After that, two soldiers faced the victim against the wall and beat his legs and back near the kidneys.
The next morning, Zanevskiy entered the cell and told the hostage to prepare for a trip to Chornobaivka to dig trenches. The man was escorted outside, seated in a minibus. Then he was blindfolded and pushed outside, and was released in this manner.
Currently, this is the fourth suspicion announced to Zanevskiy by Ukrainian law enforcement. Previously, he was already charged with other episodes of crimes, including torturing civilians in September 2022 in the captured building of the Bilozerka District Court of Kherson region.
In July 2025, a court in Zaporizhzhia sentenced Zanevskiy for mistreatment of the mother of a Ukrainian serviceman.
Yan Zanevskiy is the son of Vyacheslav Zanevskiy, a native of the Russian Federation, who obtained Ukrainian citizenship and from 2008 to 2013 headed the security service of President Viktor Yanukovych. Vyacheslav Zanevskiy left public service before the Revolution of Dignity but still lived in Ukraine for some time. Only shortly before the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine did he finally leave the country.
