The Security Service of Ukraine foiled a double terrorist attack in the courtyard of a residential complex in the centre of Ivano-Frankivsk.

This was reported by the SBU.

According to the investigation, the first explosion was to be triggered remotely using a homemade bomb placed between cars in the car park. They intended to detonate the bomb a second time once the emergency services had arrived.

The SBU established that the terrorist attack was being planned by a local unemployed man who had found work for the Russian security services via Telegram channels dedicated to job searches.

The suspect rented a flat overlooking the site of the planned explosions, and then placed a mobile phone connected to a power bank in the courtyard so that his handlers in Russia could select the location for the future blast.

He then purchased components for the explosives, which he disguised as kitchen pots. He intended to place 6 kg of explosives in each one, connect detonators and fill them with hundreds of metal bolts to maximise the impact.

On 14 April, the Security Service of Ukraine and National Police officers detained two suspects in connection with the terrorist attack in Brovary, Kyiv Oblast, which took place on the evening of 13 April. One of the suspects turned out to be a minor.

As a reminder, the SBU had previously detained two Russian agents who were planning a terrorist attack in the centre of Kyiv.
