Finland is to provide Ukraine with $300 million for defence and air defence
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on Telegram following a meeting with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.
Finland has agreed to provide Ukraine with $300 million in defence aid.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this following a meeting with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.
According to the head of state, most of the funds will go towards strengthening Ukraine’s air defence.
“We sincerely appreciate this, and we discussed the priority areas of our defence – first and foremost air defence – which can be strengthened with the help of this package,” Zelenskyy noted.
Separately, the president proposed to the Finnish prime minister that they strengthen the bilateral partnership between the two countries.
This involves the possibility of signing an agreement on drones.
Zelenskyy emphasised that Ukraine is ready to share its expertise and support those who have been helping the country since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed Ukraine’s international activities.
European integration was a separate topic.
“We touched upon international activities separately, in particular our European integration. Right now, a good opportunity is opening up to start negotiations, and Ukraine fully deserves this,” the President added.
Support for Ukraine from partners
Earlier, the German government approved the main budget guidelines for 2027.
These provide for further aid to Ukraine amounting to €11.6 billion in 2027.
The budget guidelines also allocate €8.5 billion annually for the years 2028–2030.
Berlin has suggested that these amounts may vary depending on Kyiv’s needs.
German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil explained the reduction in aid to Ukraine after 2027 by the fact that the European Union has already agreed a €90 billion loan programme.
Furthermore, Republican Senator Mitch McConnell from Kentucky reported that the Pentagon has still not transferred to Ukraine the $400 million that the US Congress allocated back in 2025.
According to him, this financial aid has been ‘gathering dust’ at the Pentagon for several months.
As reported by ThePublic, Ukraine will only repay the €90 billion EU loan after receiving reparations from Russia
