Following a drone attack, the Ryazan oil refinery in Russia has suspended operations
The Ryazan oil refinery in Russia has halted oil processing following a Ukrainian drone attack on 15 May.
Two industry sources told Reuters about this.
According to the agency, the plant accounts for almost 5% of Russia’s total oil refining capacity.
Local authorities had previously stated that four people, including a child, were killed in the drone attack in Ryazan.
Damage to multi-storey residential buildings and a strike on an unnamed industrial facility were also reported.
The Ryazan region is located south-east of Moscow. The southernmost part of the region is approximately 354 kilometres from the Ukrainian border.
Rosneft, which owns the plant, did not respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
According to the agency’s sources, the Ryazan refinery processed 13.1 million tonnes of crude oil in 2024.
The plant also produced 2.2 million tonnes of petrol, 3.4 million tonnes of diesel fuel and 4.3 million tonnes of fuel oil.
