Following the drone attacks on Moscow, Peskov stated that there was no threat to Russia’s existence
Following the drone attacks on Moscow, Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the President of the Russian Federation, stated that there is no threat to Russia’s existence as yet.
He made this statement in a comment to Russian propagandist Pavel Zarubin, who asked why a nuclear power possessing the ‘Sarmat’ missile and other weapons could, in his words, be ‘bitten’.
Peskov stated that a nuclear power cannot be threatened and its existence cannot be jeopardised.
“A nuclear power must not be threatened; its existence must not be threatened. This is what allows us to be confident in this, and it is the basis of nuclear deterrence,” said Peskov.
He also described nuclear deterrence as an “integral part” and the “cornerstone” of the Russian Federation’s national security.
Pavel Zarubin asked Peskov to clarify whether it was specifically the threat to its existence that was the most serious. The Russian president’s spokesperson replied in the affirmative.
On the night of 17 May, Moscow and the Moscow region came under a massive drone attack. There were reports of explosions, fires and damage to a number of strategic facilities.
Following the attack, Robert Brovdi, commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Forces, with the call sign ‘Madyar’, stated that the Russian capital is no longer out of reach for Ukrainian drones.
Throughout 17 May, explosions and fires were also reported in Moscow and its suburbs amid the drone attacks.
