Greece is blocking the 21st package of EU sanctions against Russia — FT
Greece is blocking the EU’s new, 21st package of sanctions against Russia because of the restrictions on Russian gas. The country wants to protect the shipping company Dynagas, which transports Russian liquefied natural gas.

The Financial Times reports this, citing sources.

According to the sources, this relates to sanctions prohibiting the transport of Russian gas to third countries — these could ruin the company owned by Greek tycoon George Prokopiou.

Dynagas owns 27 tankers, a third of which are equipped to operate in Arctic waters near the Yamal LNG plant. In Greece, it is claimed that these tankers are unsuitable for operation in other regions, so the company will be forced to sell them. Each such tanker is worth $300 million.

Over the past three years, the company has earned at least $915 million from transporting Russian petroleum products. Since the start of 2025 alone, Dynagas has transported over 10 million tonnes of Russian LNG on 11 vessels.

In addition, the sanctions package includes a mechanism designed to lower the price cap on Russian oil.
