Hezbollah has declared its readiness for a full ceasefire with Israel
Lebanon’s Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri, has conveyed a message to US President Donald Trump’s administration regarding Hezbollah’s readiness for a full and immediate ceasefire with Israel, and has expressed his willingness to guarantee the agreement’s implementation.
This was stated by Berri’s adviser Ali Hamdan, according to Axios. He said he had conveyed the message to US Ambassador to Beirut Michel Issy on behalf of the Speaker of Parliament.
According to Hamdan, the US administration had previously proposed a partial ceasefire, which would have involved Hezbollah halting attacks on northern Israel in exchange for Israel refraining from strikes on Beirut. However, Berri advocated for a complete cessation of hostilities rather than a phased approach.
He proposed a ceasefire on land, in the air and at sea. Furthermore, according to Hamdan, Israel would have to stop demolishing houses in southern Lebanon.
An adviser to the Speaker of Parliament stated that Berri maintains a channel of communication with Hezbollah and is able to convey messages to its leader, Naim Qassem, who is in hiding. According to him, the Lebanese side is confident that the group will adhere to a comprehensive ceasefire.
At the same time, US officials have expressed doubt that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would agree to such a proposal. An Israeli official also confirmed that Hezbollah has expressed its readiness for a full ceasefire without demanding the immediate withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon.
The situation is escalating against the backdrop of ongoing hostilities in Lebanon. In recent weeks, the US has called on Israel to refrain from striking Beirut as part of broader de-escalation efforts.
On 2 June, Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz issued a joint statement threatening strikes on Hezbollah targets in the Dahiya district of Beirut due to what they described as repeated violations of the ceasefire by the Shia group.
Later, the Israel Defence Forces issued an appeal in Arabic to residents of the Dahiya district, urging them to leave the area for safety reasons.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on social media platform X that Israel’s actions in Lebanon constitute a violation of the ceasefire between the US and Iran. According to him, the US and Israel will bear responsibility for the consequences of any breach of the agreements.
Shortly afterwards, Iranian officials stated that negotiations with the United States would not resume until Israel ceased its attacks in Lebanon.
It is also reported that Iran and its allies from the so-called ‘Axis of Resistance’ are prepared to respond in the Strait of Hormuz and to target other areas, notably the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea.
