Elon Musk and the heads of the largest US companies will be part of Trump’s delegation during his visit to China
Billionaire and former Donald Trump administration official Elon Musk has been included in the list of business leaders invited to join the US delegation during the US president’s visit to China, CBS reports.
This was announced by a White House spokesperson.
Donald Trump is due to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing this week. The talks will take place against a backdrop of uncertainty over the war with Iran, which is affecting global oil markets and supply chains.
The report notes that Elon Musk and other business representatives invited to join the delegation have significant business interests in China.
The list also includes:
Tim Cook of Apple, Larry Fink of BlackRock, Stephen Schwarzman of Blackstone, Kelly Ortberg of Boeing, David Solomon of Goldman Sachs, Dina Powell McCormick of Meta, Sanjay Mehrotra of Micron, Cristiano Amon of Qualcomm, Jacob Teisen of Illumina, Michael Miebach of Mastercard, Ryan McInerney of Visa, Brian Sykes of Cargill, Jane Fraser of Citi, Chuck Robbins of Cisco, Jim Anderson of Coherent, and G. Lawrence Kalp of GE Aerospace.
On Monday, Donald Trump stated that he plans to discuss economic and energy issues during his talks with Xi Jinping.
“I have a great relationship with President Xi. We do a lot of business, but it’s smart business. We were taken advantage of for years under previous presidents. And now we’re doing great with China. We’re making a lot of money with China,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
The US President also noted that he had previously postponed a trip to China due to the war with Iran.
On Monday, Trump sharply criticised Iran’s response to the US proposal to end the war, calling it “unacceptable” and “rubbish”. Furthermore, he stated that the current ceasefire is “incredibly weak” and “on the verge of collapse”.
