In Russia, an aircraft factory in Taganrog, an airfield in Voronezh and an oil refinery in Tuapse were attacked
Rostov Region
On the morning of 27 May, residents of Taganrog in the Rostov Region reported explosions. The region’s governor, Yuriy Slyusar, stated that air defence forces had allegedly shot down a missile over the city.
According to him, two women were injured by falling debris, one of whom was hospitalised in a serious condition.
Fragments of the missile fell on Tsiolkovsky Street, where Aviation Repair Plant No. 325 is located.
Monitoring Telegram channels, citing analysis of eyewitness photos and videos, report that a fire broke out on the factory premises following the attack. Smoke rose from the factory grounds, and the videos were filmed approximately 2.8 kilometres from the site.
Aviation Repair Plant No. 325 specialises in the repair of An-12, An-72 and Il-76 military transport aircraft, Su-24 frontline bombers, Su-25 ground-attack aircraft, as well as Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters.
Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the facility was subject to sanctions by the European Union, the US and Ukraine.
It is also reported that the plant was already attacked in December 2024. No official information has been released regarding damage to the facility itself.
Krasnodar Krai
On the night of 26 May, Tuapse was again targeted by drone attacks. Falling debris from the drones caused a fire, which was reportedly quickly brought under control. According to official reports, there were no casualties.
According to monitoring Telegram channels, one of the explosions likely occurred near the Tuapse Oil Refinery; this is at least the fifth attack on the plant this spring.
RN-Tuapse Oil Refinery JSC and RN-Tuapse Sea Terminal LLC form part of a single production complex and are owned by Rosneft.
Voronezh Region
The Governor of the Voronezh Region, Alexander Gusev, stated that ‘two high-speed targets’ had allegedly been detected and destroyed in the skies above Voronezh.
According to him, there were no casualties, but a tyre-fitting shop and a staff canteen were damaged by debris.
Ukrainian monitoring channels claim that these were Storm Shadow missiles fired at the ‘Baltimore’ military airfield.
According to publicly available data, the 47th Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment is stationed at this airfield, and since 24 February 2022, the airfield has been used by the Russian Air Force to launch air strikes on Ukrainian territory.
Black smoke rose above the airfield area following the attack.
