In the Black Sea off the coast of Turkey, drones attacked three tankers belonging to Russia’s ‘shadow fleet’
In the Black Sea, off the northern coast of Turkey, drones attacked three tankers. This was reported by the shipping agency Tribeca.
The Palau-flagged tanker James II, which was sailing without cargo, was struck in the engine room approximately 80 kilometres north of the Turkel area and 75 kilometres from the strait.
There were 20 crew members on board the vessel at the time of the attack.
Coastguard vessels were dispatched to the area following the incident. According to the agency, all crew members of the three vessels are safe.
The tankers Altura and Velora, flying the Sierra Leone flag, were also attacked. Both vessels were unladen and were conducting a ship-to-ship operation in a neighbouring area at the time of the incident.
Neither Russia nor Ukraine has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Moscow and Kyiv have regularly attacked each other’s ports and tankers.
