Iran is demanding that the US release $24 billion as part of a potential deal
Iran is demanding that the US unfreeze $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets as part of a potential agreement between the two countries. This was reported by Iranintl, citing a source close to the negotiating team.
According to the source, Tehran wants to receive half of the sum, namely $12 billion, immediately after the memorandum is signed. Iran expects to receive the remainder within 60 days of the agreement being concluded.
Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has already visited Qatar to agree on the mechanism for implementing this demand.
Earlier, the Fars news agency reported that Tehran refuses to hold any negotiations with the US until the American side unfreezes the blocked assets.
According to the agency, the very issue of access to these funds has become one of the main points of contention between the parties. Efforts are currently underway to resolve this through Qatari mediation.
The United States, for its part, insists on the removal of enriched uranium from Iran as a condition for concluding an agreement.
Sources at Al Arabiya reported that Tehran has expressed its willingness to transfer highly enriched uranium on condition that it is stored in China.
Before signing an agreement with the US, the Iranian side wants to receive guarantees from Beijing. This information has also been confirmed by high-ranking sources at Al Hadath.
US President Donald Trump, according to sources, insists that the nuclear materials remain under Washington’s control.
The New York Times reports that Trump is also considering sending US special forces to Iran to search for uranium.
