Iran has made a ceasefire in Lebanon a precondition for talks with the US
Iran has informed mediators that it will only take part in talks with US representatives in Islamabad on condition that the current ceasefire includes Lebanon, according to the WSJ.
According to sources, Tehran has also warned that it may reconsider its decision to open the Strait of Hormuz and resume attacks against neighbouring countries, particularly Israel, if the Israel Defence Forces continue to strike Hezbollah positions in Lebanon.
These statements came against the backdrop of an agreement between the US and Iran on a temporary two-week ceasefire, reached the day before.
US President Donald Trump stated that this ceasefire does not extend to Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Israel has stated that it will not cease military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Mediators are working to organise a meeting between Iran and the US, which could take place in Pakistan in the near future.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on the parties to exercise restraint and support the diplomatic process.
