Iran opens the Strait of Hormuz to commercial vessels
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has announced that the Strait of Hormuz has been opened to all commercial vessels.
“In light of the ceasefire in Lebanon, passage through the Strait of Hormuz for all commercial vessels is hereby declared fully open; all merchant ships may freely pass through the Strait of Hormuz for the remainder of the ceasefire period,” he stated on social media platform X. “Vessels will follow an agreed route determined by the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organisation,” he added.
According to Abbas Araghchi, vessels may follow the agreed routes.
He clarified that the passage procedure has been determined by the Ports and Maritime Organisation of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Since the start of the war, Iran has effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz. Following the introduction of the ceasefire, Tehran had not previously announced its reopening.
Meanwhile, the United States has announced its own blockade of ships departing from Iranian ports.
