The EU approved the 18th package of sanctions against Russia
About this, reported by "European Truth" citing sources among diplomats in Brussels.
"This morning, Coreper approved the 18th package of sanctions against Russia. It was the only item on the agenda," said one European diplomat.
The formal approval of the sanctions will take place later the same day at the EU General Affairs Council meeting. The new package includes, among other things, over 100 ships of the so-called "shadow fleet," additional restrictions against Russian banks and companies outside Russia that support its military machine, as well as a reduction in the price cap on Russian oil.
The EU's chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas, stated that this is one of the strongest sanctions packages against the Kremlin.
"We are further cutting the Kremlin's war budget by including 105 ships of the 'shadow fleet' and those who support it, as well as restricting Russian banks' access to financing. The 'Nord Stream' will be banned. The oil price cap has also been lowered," emphasized Kallas.
She emphasized that the sanctions increase pressure on the Russian military-industrial complex, Chinese banks helping Russia bypass restrictions, and will also complicate the import of components for military UAVs into Russia.
