Torture and rape of a female volunteer: charges brought against ‘LPR’ militants
This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine and the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Ukrainian law enforcement authorities have charged four members of the illegal armed group “LNR”.
According to the investigation, in 2014 they tortured a female volunteer in the Luhansk region and sexually assaulted her.
The victim lodged a complaint with the Office of the Prosecutor General in 2025. Following this, law enforcement officers began documenting the crime and identifying those involved.
The woman was delivering food, clothing and ammunition to Ukrainian servicemen in eastern Ukraine. She also evacuated civilians – women and children – from the Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
What happened in the Luhansk region in 2014
On 20 June 2014, the volunteer and three acquaintances were unlawfully detained at a checkpoint by the so-called “Don Cossacks”.
She was then handed over to members of another illegal armed group – the “Antratsyt Military Command”. There, she was held captive and subjected to abuse.
Inside the “commandant’s office”, the volunteer was subjected to prolonged violence. Initially, two of the attackers threatened to kill her, held a knife to her throat, intimidated and humiliated her.
According to the investigation, one of them committed acts of a sexual nature.
Later, during a night-time “interrogation”, two more people joined in the abuse. The victim was beaten with rubber truncheons, particularly on the head. After being struck in the ear, she began to bleed heavily. Following this, the woman was raped.
Separately, the investigation established that one of the suspects, who held a leadership role in this group, took possession of the victim’s car and used it for his own purposes.
Law enforcement officials emphasise that this had no connection whatsoever to military operations and is classified as unlawful appropriation of property.
Who has been charged
Investigators from the Main Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine, together with operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Cyberpolice Departments, have identified four members of illegal armed groups who, according to the investigation, are implicated in these crimes.
Among them is a Ukrainian citizen who, since 2014, held the post of commander of the ‘military commandant’s office in the city of Antratsyt’.
Two other suspects are Ukrainian citizens, and one is a Russian citizen.
The four suspects are charged with cruel treatment of the civilian population, torture, sexual violence and other violations of the laws and customs of war, committed by a group of persons acting in concert.
This relates to Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
One of the suspects is additionally charged with the unlawful appropriation of a civilian’s property, not justified by military necessity, under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The penalty under this article provides for imprisonment for a term of up to 12 years.
It was reported separately that, through the joint efforts of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and investigators from the National Police, the identity of an FSB officer was established who, during the occupation of the village of Dymer in the Vyshhorod district of the Kyiv region in 2022, was involved in the torture of the civilian population.
He was identified as FSB Lieutenant Colonel Serhiy Oleksandrovych Oleinychuk.
