Kyiv customs seized 3.7 kilograms of cannabis disguised as dried fruit
In the customs control zone for international postal items at Kyiv Customs, Nora, a Belgian Shepherd service dog, detected an attempt to smuggle drugs across the border. The parcel was sent from Thailand to the Kyiv region. The customs declaration stated "Dried Fruit".
Inside were 19 packages labelled "Essential Dried Longan Natural Taste of Real Fruit." During the inspection, the canine team focused their attention on one of the shipments. A rapid test confirmed the presence of a plant-based substance containing cannabis in the packages. The total gross weight was 3.71 kilograms.
Cannabis is a controlled substance, the circulation of which is restricted. Its import without appropriate permission is prohibited. Customs notified law enforcement agencies of the criminal offence.
Operational measures were carried out in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine. The persons involved in the delivery were detained and notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 305 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
