Massive UAV attack on Kryvyi Rih leaves 45,000 subscribers without electricity
On the night of 14 January, Russian troops launched a massive drone attack on Kryvyi Rih, targeting civilian infrastructure. According to the head of the city's Defence Council, Oleksandr Vilkul, the strikes caused an emergency power cut to more than 45,000 subscribers, and left more than 700 residential buildings without heat from several boiler houses.
Small boiler houses promptly switched to generators, while there are no such backup sources for 6 kilovolt boiler houses. The City Vodokanal's pumping stations were also powered by generators, which allowed them to keep water in the system, although the pressure was reduced. In the morning, the high-speed tram was temporarily suspended.
The response to the attack lasted all night. Rescuers extinguished the fire that broke out after the hits. In the morning, power engineers restored power to all emergency customers, boiler houses were fired up and started to heat up, and public transport, including the high-speed tram, resumed normal operations. The water supply has been stabilised, and hospitals and social institutions are operating smoothly.
In the Dnipro region, other communities were also hit. According to the head of the regional military administration, Oleksandr Ganzha, drones attacked Pavlohrad, Ternivka, Verbkivska community and Shakhtarske in Synelnykivskyi district, where damage was recorded on the territories of enterprises. In the Nikopol district, artillery fire hit Nikopol, Marhanetska and Pokrovska communities, damaging three private houses, with no casualties or injuries
In Kharkiv region rescuers extinguished four fires as a result of night strikes by UAVs. Private houses and outbuildings were on fire in Izium and Kupyansk districts over an area of 40 to 100 square metres. Two people were injured. The SES units, medical teams and community officers were involved in the firefighting operations.
