During his visit to Kyiv, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius announced his intention to expand cooperation with Ukraine in the development of new weapons. This includes, in particular, the joint production of long-range unmanned aerial systems.

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius announced plans to expand cooperation with Ukraine in the development of new weapons, particularly long-range unmanned aerial systems, at the start of his visit to Kyiv, according to n-tv.de.

According to Pistorius, Germany and Ukraine are strategic partners who benefit mutually from their cooperation.

“Germany and Ukraine are strategic partners who both benefit from cooperation. This has led to numerous new projects. The focus is on the joint development of state-of-the-art unmanned systems of all ranges, particularly in the field of deep strike. In this way, we are strengthening the security of our countries,” said Pistorius.

The German Defence Minister stated that Berlin aims to establish new joint ventures with the Ukrainian defence industry. According to him, this will allow German technology to be combined with the combat experience of Ukrainian specialists.

“At the same time, we benefit from the Ukrainians’ battlefield experience. Furthermore, we plan to use the Brave One platform to support developers who can present promising innovations,” the minister noted.

During the visit, discussions also focused on addressing NATO’s ‘capability gaps’ regarding long-range weapons.

Germany has already funded the purchase of hundreds of missiles for Patriot systems and agreed to supply additional Iris-T launchers.

On 11 May, Boris Pistorius arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit.
