Hidden cigarettes were found in boilers at the border with Romania
On 15 March, a car driven by a Romanian national returning to his home country arrived at the ‘Porubne–Siret’ border crossing, according to the State Customs Service.
During customs inspection, the driver stated that he was transporting four electric water heaters in their original packaging in the boot of the car.
During the customs inspection, officials from the Chernivtsi Customs Office discovered that undeclared goods were concealed inside the water heaters.
These were tobacco products, specifically cigarettes of the brands ‘Rotmans’, ‘Cult’ and ‘Compliment’ without Ukrainian excise stamps.
Customs officers are currently determining the exact quantity of the tobacco products found and their value. From one boiler, 147 cartons, or 1,470 packets of cigarettes, were seized. In total, four boilers were being transported in the vehicle, so the estimated quantity of cigarettes may be around 600 cartons.
In connection with this incident, customs officials are drawing up a report on the violation of customs regulations under Part 1 of Article 483 of the Customs Code of Ukraine.
The illegally transported tobacco products have been temporarily seized.
