A channel for smuggling conscripts to Poland for $18,000 was uncovered in Lviv region
According to the investigation, a 30-year-old resident of the Yavoriv district, together with a 35-year-old resident of Lviv, established a channel for the illegal transfer of men liable for military service from Ukraine to European Union countries. The cost of the services was $18,000 per person.
The perpetrators developed a detailed plan of action. They provided clients with instructions on how to cross the border, arranged hotel accommodation, and facilitated further legalisation in the destination country. To avoid border control, the men were transported in a specially equipped hiding place in a truck.
On 12 February, law enforcement officers detained the suspects in Lviv after they received $18,000 from a client. The operation was carried out by officers of the Strategic Investigations Department in Lviv Oblast, the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv Oblast and Lviv police investigators under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Oblast Prosecutor's Office.
The detainees have been notified of the charges against them under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The penalty provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to nine years, deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, and confiscation of property. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
