In Lviv region, a driver blew himself up along with a police patrol
On the evening of November 16, the driver detonated a grenade after being stopped by patrol officers, according to Facebook of the Lviv Region Police.
The law enforcement officials reported that the incident occurred around 6:00 PM in the town of Rudky, Sambir District.
"Patrol police officers from the response unit of Police Department No. 1 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 2 stopped an Alfa Romeo car, whose driver violated traffic rules," - the message states.
The driver turned out to be a 37-year-old resident of one of the villages in the Sambir district. During a conversation with the police near the vehicle, the man took out a grenade and detonated it. As a result of the explosion, he sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital.
"Investigators of the Sambir District Police Department have opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 263 (illegal handling of weapons, combat ammunition, or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and Article 348 (attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer, member of a community formation for the protection of public order and the state border, or a serviceman) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine," - the post states.
The man faces a prison sentence of 9 to 15 years or life imprisonment. A pre-trial investigation is currently underway.
