The editor-in-chief of *Fakty* has reported that his daughter was attacked in the centre of Kyiv
The journalist reported this on his Facebook page.
According to Shvets, his daughter was waiting for the bus after work when an unknown elderly man suddenly pushed her in the back. The woman stepped aside and took a can of hairspray out of her bag, after which the man, according to the journalist, knocked it out of her hands and punched her in the face.
Other people at the bus stop witnessed the incident. One of the men took a photo of the attacker and gave the victim his contact details, agreeing to give evidence to the police.
What is known about the police’s response
As Shvets explained, after contacting the police, the operator informed him that a patrol had been dispatched to the scene. However, about 20 minutes later, the victim received a second call informing her that the police would not be coming, advising her to go home and assuring her that the attacker would be found. According to the journalist, no one has contacted him since.
In his post, Shvets also expressed his belief that impunity for such cases could lead to further acts of violence, and called on the police to respond appropriately to such incidents.
