Odesa region exposes scheme to sell humanitarian vehicles from the EU: resident of Kyiv region detained
In Odesa region, law enforcement officers detained a 53-year-old resident of Kyiv region suspected of illegally selling vehicles imported to Ukraine as humanitarian aid. The operation was carried out by investigators of the Main Department of the National Police in Odesa region under the operational support of the Security Service of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the man acted in collusion with unidentified persons and used documents and details of a charity organisation. Under this guise, he received cars imported under a simplified procedure allegedly for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and subsequently put them up for sale through popular online ad platforms.
In early 2026, police documented the sale of three vehicles - Nissan PickUp, Nissan Navara and Mazda. The total amount of the transaction was $17,800. After receiving the full amount and handing over the cars to the buyer with the relevant documents, law enforcement officers stopped the illegal activity and detained the suspect in a procedural manner.
The man was served a notice of suspicion of entering into transactions for the disposal of humanitarian aid items for the purpose of obtaining a significant amount of profit, committed by a group of persons during martial law. According to part three of Article 201 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, he faces up to seven years in prison with confiscation of property and a ban on holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for up to three years.
The issue of choosing a measure of restraint is currently being decided.
