An official from the Territorial Recruitment Centre has been arrested in the Vinnytsia region on suspicion of bribery
Officers from the State Bureau of Investigations have detained a senior official from the Khmilnytskyi District Recruitment and Social Support Centre in Vinnytsia Oblast.
According to the investigation, the official organised a scheme whereby he helped men remove themselves from the wanted list for 3,000 US dollars. He enlisted subordinates to make changes to the system and received the funds through intermediaries.
Law enforcement officers arrested him whilst he was receiving the money.
The official has been notified of suspicion of receiving unlawful benefits, combined with extortion. The court suspended him from office and imposed a preventive measure in the form of detention, with the possibility of bail set at 998,000 hryvnias.
The offence carries a penalty of imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Investigators are examining the possible involvement of other employees of the regional recruitment centre.
The proceedings are being supervised by the Vinnytsia Specialised Prosecutor’s Office for Defence in the Southern Region.
