In Transcarpathia, customs officers stopped an attempt to illegally export pine wood to Poland
Transcarpathian customs officers documented a violation of customs regulations during an attempt to export a consignment of pine timber. The incident occurred at the Chop-Zahony checkpoint on the border with Hungary.
During customs control and inspection of the truck transporting the timber for export, customs officers found discrepancies in the data specified in the accompanying documents.
According to the documents, a Volyn-based company was sending 34 truckloads of pine timber to Poland for the manufacture of Euro pallets. The shipment consisted of sawn and sanded timber with a volume of 40 cubic metres, weighing 24.2 tonnes and worth almost €9,000.
During a detailed inspection involving forestry experts, discrepancies were found in the information specified in the invoice. These discrepancies concerned the total cost, volume, dimensions and origin of the timber and the sawn timber made from it.
It was also established that the data in the certificate of origin of the timber submitted for the export operation did not correspond to part of the consignment.
A report on violation of customs rules was drawn up against the 25-year-old director of the Ukrainian company who provided customs with documents containing false information about the geometric dimensions of the goods, their value, quantity and certificate of origin of the timber.
Sanctions under Part 1 of Article 483 of the Customs Code of Ukraine provide for a fine of 50 to 100 per cent of the value of the items involved in the offence and their confiscation.
The shipment of timber, worth almost half a million hryvnias, was seized.
In addition, the Transcarpathian Customs sent a report to the Economic Security Bureau about possible illegal actions that contain signs of a criminal offence under Article 201-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
