The National Police carried out a series of raids on officials at the TCC in connection with cases of illicit enrichment
The National Police’s Department of Strategic Investigations is taking steps to uncover corruption offences among officials at regional recruitment and social support centres.
According to the police, evidence has been documented of possible illicit enrichment and false declarations by officials amounting to almost 92 million hryvnias.
One of the individuals involved, the head of the Regional Recruitment and Social Support Centre in Odesa, is alleged to have acquired assets worth over 45 million hryvnias during his time in office, according to the investigation.
Law enforcement agencies are also investigating other current and former officials of the TCCs and Social Support Centres. In particular, the discrepancy between the declared assets of one of the assistants to the head of the Joint TCC and Social Support Centre and his actual financial status amounts to 10 million hryvnias. For a former officer of the recruitment and staffing department of another Regional Tax and Customs Service, this discrepancy amounts to 6.6 million hryvnias.
As part of the criminal proceedings, law enforcement officers carried out 44 searches across 16 regions of the country. Investigative actions took place at the suspects’ places of residence, in office premises and in vehicles.
During the searches, various models of Tesla cars, motorcycles, cash in national and foreign currency, as well as contracts were seized. Among the documents is a contract for the receipt of a non-repayable cash grant of one million hryvnias. The police note that these documents may be used to launder funds obtained illegally and will be examined as part of the criminal proceedings.
In addition, over the past few days, more than 150 reports of administrative offences related to corruption have been drawn up. These relate to breaches of restrictions on holding multiple posts, financial control requirements, and rules on the prevention and resolution of conflicts of interest.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement officers are continuing to gather evidence to bring charges against those involved in the criminal proceedings.
