Why is Russia launching round-the-clock attacks on Ukraine? The Air Force explains the occupiers’ tactics
Yuriy Ignat, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Air Force, spoke about this during the telethon.
The enemy is striking non-stop: what is known
According to Ignat, Russia has been carrying out attacks lasting around the clock for several weeks now. Similar strikes were recorded a month ago, a week ago, and a few days ago.
To this end, the occupiers are using, in particular, decoy drones – unmanned aerial vehicles that do not strike targets but force Ukrainian air defences to respond constantly.
Why is Russia attacking around the clock?
The aim of such actions is multifaceted. Ignat highlighted several areas of pressure:
- exhausting air defence – both ground-based systems and aviation;
- putting pressure on personnel – military personnel, operators and staff;
- destruction of supplies – ammunition and equipment.
“Everyone needs a rest; the enemy understands this, which is why they sometimes launch such large-scale attacks – yes, large-scale, round the clock – thereby wearing down our personnel, equipment and supplies. They may have built up a certain amount of reserves somewhere, and so they planned one strike or another every 2–3 minutes throughout the entire day,” he explained.
Is this a new tactic?
No. According to Ignat, round-the-clock attacks are not fundamentally new. Russia has already employed this approach, and it remains part of the overall strategy of attrition.
If the enemy strikes without pause, the strain increases on several fronts at once: air defence, the economy and the army’s combat resources all suffer.
