Odessa is being prepared for a circular defence; anti-tank trenches and fortifications are being built around the city
Odessa is being prepared for a ring of defences to strengthen the city’s protection against possible attacks by Russian forces. This was reported by the regional command of the ‘South’ Territorial Defence Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to military sources, the construction of anti-tank trenches and bunkers stretching for several kilometres around the city is nearing completion. The installation of barbed wire, ‘dragon’s teeth’ and ‘maze’ type engineering obstacles is also underway.
The Territorial Defence Forces emphasised that this is not a show of force, but rather preventive measures designed to dispel any illusions Russia may have regarding the possibility of landing troops in the region.
“A robust defence does not increase, but reduces the risk of the enemy advancing here in the foreseeable future!” the military stated.
At the same time, preparations are continuing in Ukraine for the circular defence of other regions. Due to the risks of new attacks from Belarus and Russia’s Bryansk Oblast, preparations have already begun in 32 settlements, including Kyiv and settlements in Chernihiv Oblast.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine had received intelligence regarding a possible escalation in this direction.
Border defences are also being strengthened in the Volyn region. Border communities are preparing for a circular defence, and local authorities have identified locations for the full evacuation of adjacent territories in the event of a real threat.
