Peseshkian stated that Iran is prepared to end the war provided certain guarantees are given
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on Tuesday that his country has the “necessary resolve” to end the war with Israel and the United States, but that this requires the fulfilment of key conditions, according to Euractiv.
During a telephone conversation with European Council President António Costa, Pezeshkian said that guarantees were needed to end the conflict, which would prevent a repeat of the aggression.
“We have the necessary will to end this conflict, provided that important conditions are met, particularly the guarantees needed to prevent a recurrence of aggression,” Peshkian said, according to a statement from his office.
He thus reiterated one of Tehran’s key demands.
Iranian media reported that in response to the US 15-point plan to end the war, presented last week, Iran had submitted its own five-point proposal. It also called for an end to aggression and the creation of a mechanism to ensure that neither Israel nor the US would return to war.
“The solution to normalising the situation lies in stopping their aggressive attacks,” Peshkian said on Tuesday.
The war began on 28 February when the US and Israel launched a series of strikes against Iran, killing the country’s supreme leader. This was followed by retaliatory strikes involving missiles and drones in the region.
