The police are investigating Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on suspicion of treason
The Slovak police have launched an investigation into Prime Minister Robert Fico on suspicion of treason and other offences. This was announced by Branislav Gröling, leader of the opposition SaS party, on social media, according to Aktuality.
According to him, the investigation was prompted by a criminal complaint he filed a month ago. Over 13,000 people, in addition to members of the SaS party, signed the complaint. Gröling stated that this was the largest such petition in history.
He noted that the materials were initially sent to the Slovak General Prosecutor’s Office, after which they were forwarded to the regional prosecutor’s office and subsequently to the police.
Gröling expressed his conviction that Robert Fico may be implicated in serious criminal offences, adding that he welcomes the actions of the prosecutor’s office and the police, who have not closed the case.
Representatives of SaS filed several criminal complaints with the General Prosecutor’s Office at the end of February. According to them, the Prime Minister’s statements and actions regarding his intentions to halt the supply of so-called emergency electricity to Ukraine could constitute criminal offences.
Specifically, these include suspicions of abuse of power, treason, inhuman treatment, breach of duty in the management of another’s property, and a terrorist act.
