Over 51 million hryvnias in losses: entrepreneur to be tried for fraud involving solar power
Kyiv police have submitted an indictment to the court against a Kyiv businessman suspected of causing losses to the state in excess of 51.7 million hryvnias during the supply of electricity.
According to law enforcement officials, in April last year, investigators from the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv, together with employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, uncovered violations in the activities of the director of a company specialising in the production of electricity from solar power plants.
During the pre-trial investigation, it was established that for three years, the head of the company submitted inaccurate reports on the operation of the solar power plant and the volume of electricity generated to the state-owned enterprise. Without checking the actual generation figures, he systematically indicated significantly inflated volumes of electricity in the documents, which exceeded the technical capabilities of the plant.
As a result, the state paid the company more than 51.7 million hryvnias for electricity that was not actually generated.
Based on the evidence gathered, the defendant's actions were classified under Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — official negligence resulting in serious consequences. The article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to five years with the possible deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in relevant activities for up to three years.
