An SSU officer has been arrested on suspicion of accepting a bribe of $34,000
Law enforcement officers have dismantled a scheme involving the fictitious employment of men to secure deferrals from conscription. According to the investigation, a current employee of the Security Service of Ukraine and a businessman are implicated in organising the scheme.
According to the investigation, the cost of such services was 8,500 US dollars per person. The men were registered as employees of the company only on paper, without actually performing any work or being present at the workplace.
The scheme was uncovered after one of the potential clients contacted the police. The subsequent documentation of the suspects’ actions and the transfer of funds took place under the supervision of operatives.
The SBU officer was detained whilst receiving US$34,000.
The issue of notifying him of the suspicion and selecting a preventive measure is currently being decided. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement officers identifying other individuals involved in the scheme.
The operation was carried out with the participation of prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General and internal security units of the Security Service of Ukraine.
